Top tips & advice to prepare for the UCAT 2025

We get it, UCAT preparation can be scary and overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be! Read on for top tips and advice to help you prepare to smash the UCAT.

Start early and break it down

Spend 4-6 weeks MINIMUM on your UCAT prep if you want to be in the top deciles of UCAT scorers. Break down your prep into three sections over six weeks:

Weeks 1-2:

The perfect way to start your UCAT prep is with our 2 day Live online UCAT course or recorded course. Then, spend this time improving your accuracy by identifying the different ways of getting to the answer. Practice with untimed short quizzes to identify your mistakes early and build the foundation for the remainder of your prep.

Weeks 3-4:

Should be spent working on speed along with accuracy by learning how to triage effectively – that is picking and choosing the easier questions in the section without wasting time (this is covered in detail in the 2-day UCAT course)!

Weeks 5-6:

Spend the final two weeks of your UCAT prep simulating exam conditions with mock tests. Students who do well on the UCAT are the ones who stay calm at the test centre and replicate their practice on the day it matters most!

Practice under timed conditions

Replicate the exam environment at home by taking practice tests within the allocated time.

Focus on weak areas

Identify your weakest sections within the subtests and spend more time practicing those areas that you struggle with. This will give you the best chance of getting a high UCAT score.

In 2020, the average score for verbal reasoning was 570, increasing to 601 by 2024. Although this score isn’t necessarily “bad,” it falls short of the more recent averages and would position you between the bottom 3rd and 4th deciles – to smash the UCAT, you should strive for the top 2 deciles!

Can I prepare for UCAT in 3 days?

No! Spend 4-6 weeks MINIMUM on your UCAT prep if you want to be in the top 2 deciles of UCAT scorers, and make sure to break down your prep over this time period to make it more manageable.
