Message from the Founder -> "Welcome! I’m Dr. Bakhtar Ahmad, founder of The Medic Life and a practising UK doctor. In this guide, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know about medicine work experience in London.

PS: Before I start, I wanted you (as a future doctor/dentist) to join us at King's College London for a Free workshop.

Medicine Work Experience

Medicine Work Experience London: NHS-aligned workshops

Our free London medicine work experience gives you real insight into healthcare. The Medic Life runs NHS-aligned workshops and placements where students observe doctors and caring roles across London. This shows admissions tutors you understand life in medicine.

Best of all, our program is completely free - we break down financial and connection barriers so everyone can participate. You’ll hear from specialists in surgery, psychiatry, GP care and more, and learn to reflect on those experiences (medical schools value applicants who do this).

What We Offer: Medicine Work Experience London

  • Free Interactive Workshops: Join our London events (e.g. at King’s College London) and virtual seminars where NHS doctors and med students talk about their day-to-day work. These one-day sessions include demos and simulations so you experience aspects of medical careers first-hand.

  • Hospital & GP Shadowing: We connect you with supervised placements in London NHS hospitals and GP practices (usually age 16+). Whether it’s observing ward rounds or GP consultations, we arrange flexible dates near you. (We also advise on paperwork and approvals so you’re fully prepared.)

  • Virtual Experience: If in-person isn’t possible, we guide you to free online options like the RCGP’s Observe GP platform. Our own webinars and interactive modules simulate patient interactions, giving London students extra practice from home.

  • Expert Mentoring: Our team (led by doctors like our founder Dr. Ahmad) teaches you how to reflect on what you see. You’ll learn to identify skills (teamwork, communication, empathy) and tie them into your personal statement and interviews – not just log hours.

  • Accessible & Nationwide: The Medic Life’s mission is to make work experience available to all. Our services are entirely free. We partner with London NHS trusts (e.g. North West London UHC NHS Trust) and hospitals across the UK, so you can often find placements close to home.

Who Can Join The Medic Life's Free Medicine Work Experience in London?

  • Year 12–13 (Age 16+): The prime time to build your CV. At 16 and above, more doors open: you can shadow doctors, volunteer in clinics, and attend our London workshops. We specialize in helping Year 12s secure the work experience they need before UCAS, and Year 13s can fill any gaps with our resources.

  • Year 10–11 (Age 14–15): Even younger students can benefit. Some London trusts offer introductory programs or insight days for Year 10–11. We’ll guide you to age-appropriate opportunities (like virtual workshops or volunteering) to start learning now. This early experience gives you a head start and builds good habits.

  • Other Aspiring Medics: Graduates, gap-year students, and career-changers are welcome. Our workshops and online sessions cover core insights for any applicant, and we can suggest placements suitable for older students as well. In short, if you want medicine in London (or anywhere in the UK) – The Medic Life helps at every stage.
