Lincoln Medicine Interview: Intro

Lincoln’s Medical School is launching its own 5year MBChB from September 2026. Admissions for 2026 will use in-person Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). To earn an interview invite, applicants generally need top UKCAT scores and strong GCSE results.

During interviews you must demonstrate core qualities like communication, teamwork, ethical judgment and professionalism. Lincoln explicitly confirms interviews will be on campus (not online).

Lincoln Medicine Interview -> Interview Format & Key Details

  • Format: Lincoln uses an MMI circuit of short stations. Typically there are about 8 stations, each lasting 5–8 minutes.

  • Mode: Interviews are in-person on the Lincoln campus, not remote.

  • Duration: The full interview lasts roughly 30–40 minutes in total (plus time to set up).

  • Station Types: Expect a mix of scenario-based tasks: role-play with actors (e.g. patient or colleague conversations), standard interview questions, and data problems. Lincoln’s official guidance notes MMIs will include ethics questions, communication scenarios, data interpretation exercises, and questions about your motivation and understanding of medicine.

Lincoln Medicine Interview -> Common Interview Topics

Lincoln’s interview stations cover the typical non-academic competencies tested in UK medical MMIs. Prepare for questions and tasks on topics such as:

Communication & Empathy: e.g. taking a patient history, explaining procedures in plain language.

Role-Play Scenarios: interacting with a simulated patient or relative (e.g. managing conflict, giving information).

Teamwork & Professionalism: e.g. reflecting on a team experience, defining what makes a good doctor.

Ethics & Law: applying the four pillars (autonomy, beneficence, etc.), consent, confidentiality and prioritisation.

NHS & Healthcare: discussing healthcare systems or issues (for example, continuity of care in rural Lincolnshire).

Motivation & Self-Reflection: e.g. “Why medicine?”, “Why Lincoln?”, resilience and learning from setbacks.

Data Analysis: interpreting simple graphs or triage scenarios (e.g. managing ward tasks).

These domains are based on Lincoln’s stated criteria and past MMI content. Focus your preparation on clear communication, ethical reasoning, knowledge of local healthcare challenges, and insight into your own experiences.

Lincoln Medicine Interview -> Sample Lincoln MMI Stations

While Lincoln doesn’t publish its actual questions, past guides suggest stations like:

  • Role-Play with a “Parent” – A relative complains about long waits or difficult care, and you must show empathy, explain next steps, and de-escalate.

  • Ethics Scenario – A teenage volunteer asks you to keep secret their self-harm, raising confidentiality vs. safety issues.

  • Teamwork Reflection – “Tell us about a time you worked in a team under pressure. What did you do well and what would you change?”.

  • Prioritisation Task – You have multiple clinical tasks (e.g. fetch meds, help a patient) and must rank them with justification.

  • NHS Question – “What does good continuity of care in general practice mean, and why is it important in rural Lincolnshire?”.

  • Communication Task – “Explain a common blood test (e.g. a blood count) to a layperson without jargon.”.

  • Motivation / Fit – “Why do you want to study medicine at Lincoln, and how will you contribute to our cohort?”.

These are illustrative examples. In any station, listen carefully and answer clearly; many are designed to assess communication and empathy as much as factual knowledge.

Lincoln Medicine Interview -> Preparing Effectively

To excel at Lincoln’s MMI, practice structured answer techniques and realistic simulations:

Use Answer Frameworks: Structure your responses. For experience-based questions, use the STAR method (Situation-Task-Action-Result) or the Point–Example–Reflection model. For ethical or prioritisation scenarios, consider known frameworks (e.g. SPIES for dilemmas, ABCDE for steps).

Practice Role-Plays: Lincoln interviews emphasize human interaction. Rehearse common role-play scenarios aloud – show empathy, set an agenda, summarize clearly and check understanding. Drills with friends/family can help you get comfortable explaining medical info in simple terms.

Know Lincoln’s Context: Be ready to discuss Lincolnshire-specific issues. For example, Lincoln’s catchment is largely rural, so think about rural health priorities, primary vs. secondary care, and local NHS challenges. Demonstrating awareness of the setting is impressive.

Mock Interviews & Timing: Do timed MMI mock circuits. Aim to spend ~5–7 minutes per station (as in real MMI). Record or get feedback on your practice to improve clarity and confidence. Many candidates find it helpful to practice “thinking out loud” and organizing thoughts quickly.

Review Your Application: Lincoln may review your personal statement after interview. Make sure you can comfortably discuss anything you wrote (work experience, interests, etc.) and that it aligns with your interview answers. Authentic, reflective examples from your own background will resonate.

By combining structured preparation (frameworks) with realistic practice (MMI simulations and feedback), you’ll enter the interview feeling ready to perform under time pressure while staying genuine.

Lincoln Medicine Interview -> FAQs

What is the offer ratio for Lincoln medicine interviews?

Exact figures for 2026 are not yet published. In a recent cycle (2021/22, under the old Nottingham partnership), ~118 Lincoln applicants were interviewed and ~103 received offers. This implies an exceptionally high post-interview offer rate (about 87%). In practice, Lincoln offers places to most candidates it interviews. (Keep in mind these historical numbers may change for the new independent MBChB.)

What percentage of medicine applicants get an interview?

In general, only a minority of applicants get interviews. Data suggest roughly 38% of UK medical applicants receive an interview invite in a given cycle. Lincoln’s own rate is higher than the UK average because it invites most applicants (e.g. in 2020 about 65% of its home applicants were interviewed). But this varies by school: top schools may invite a smaller percentage, while newer schools invite a larger share.
